Frequently Asked Questions

Why RSS 0.92?

Q.

When will Textpattern support a newer RSS version?
Why doesn’t my RSS feed include a timestamp for each item?

A.

Textpattern’s supported RSS version is now 2.0.

Textpattern supports RSS 0.92 because it’s the simplest and most widely deployed version.

Version 0.92 has some drawbacks, notably a lack of item (post) timestamps.

We’d like to support a newer version, really we would. Unfortunately, RSS is plagued by ambiguous and sometimes contradictory specifications, and a confusing plethora of competing standards. In early 2004, Mark Pilgrim counted nine incompatible versions of RSS and more have been created since.

We’ll think about improving RSS support when the path forward is clear. Until then, you might like to try Atom instead.
